Suruf_i_du! Forgive me!

This past week was Tabaski in the Muslim world.  It is a religious holiday that remembers when Abraham was going to sacrifice Ishmael (according to the Muslim tradition) and God provided a ram for him instead.  Each family sacrifices a goat or sheep and then they visit friends and family asking for forgiveness and giving them meat.

This is how the cook their meat.  It takes basically all day to cook.

posing with the meat--not sure what's going on with all of our faces!

Katherine and I spent that day with my family.  We ate, and ate, and ate some more and then we walked over to a small sand dune near their house where we played off some off that food before coming back and eating again.  Oh and there was lots and lots of tea!

Here's some pictures from the day!

this is hot pepper and oil used to "paint" the sheep while it roasts.  I told Raichatou I'd give her a dollar if she ate a spoonful of it.  She didn't take me up on that offer.

H. Kou helped with some of our health training.  You can see that he took the teaching about germs to heart.  Bones you find on a sand dune are guaranteed to be germ free :$
